Spring Rain
Do you ever have days where you think you might just be going a bit dippy?
I am happy I’m not living with a psychiatrist today as I’ve done a dozen things and forgotten what it is I’m doing already, and the day is still young!
I don’t always eat breakfast these days, but I decided to lash out this morning and make myself some Aldi toast (bread from Aldi that is)...nothing fancy.
I found myself after spreading some butter and jam, poised and ready to put coffee granules on top until I realised that the coffee goes into a cup, not the toast.
Silly woman that I am at times, I strongly suspect it may have something to do with a certain feline creature who likes to party at night and sleep all day (well most of it anyhow). I woke up at one point overnight with something in the bed next to my head. It was inanimate and cold....and I had the presence of mind to think, bloody hell, it’s a mouse or worse, a R.A.T.!!!!!! Upon inspection though, I was relieved to find it was a dangly toy that Linda has harboured since she arrived here, a $10 toy from the supermarket that usually hangs and she jumps up to pull it down whenever I hang it back up (a bit of a game between us).
If you’ve ever been to my place, you’ll know there are three flights of six steps up to the main bedroom. Linda and I race each other to get there first, and she’ll often have this toy in her mouth as she runs up and down, little predator that she is, or wishes she was at the very least.
I have a vast array of native birds that come to visit every day...cockatoos, galahs, fairy wrens, even doves, occasional crows (I’m not partial to them as they figure greatly in Stephen King novels as foretellers of death and destruction) lots of different varieties, so many I don’t know their names, so....just lots of birds. I know if Madame was allowed outside, she’d have a field day and I’m just a wee bit apprehensive she would get lost on the property so hence she is an indoor cat much to her disgust and dismay.
When she rests, she’ll snooze by a window and the slightest rustle of feathers outside and she’s awake and ready to defend her castle if needs be. I just hope that if there is ever another (yes, another) mouse visitation, she’ll defend again. I just don’t want to wake up at some ungodly hour and find a dead (or alive for that matter) rodent resting anywhere near me, compliments of Miss Linda.
The two dogs look on with disdain I am sure, at this creature in the house. I think the three have signed a pact to co-habitate from a distance. There have never been any squabbles or fights. Stuart appears to be a bit more curiouser than Noni. All Linda wants to do is play with their tails, but the dogs are pretty adept at keeping them tucked away so her attempts at swiping are often thwarted
On a side note, I had planned to do some gardening today, but, alas, it’s raining again, so it looks like I’ll just stay indoors and maybe move some furniture around for a change.....again.
Every day I count my blessings that we moved up here to this small country town.
Initially we looked at Bright, it being the popular tourist attraction that it is but we went further afield obviously settling on this place and we have never regretted the move.
There is so much natural beauty here and even though the garden is overgrown in places and it’s the capital of Weed City, I love it so much because of its peace and tranquility.
In autumn after the leaves have fallen you can see all the way down to the road. The leaves fall off eventually and it’s exposed for winter which is comforting because on those cold wintery days the sound of the occasional car, truck or motorbike reassures me I’m not the only human out here in the back blocks.
Spring comes along for a brief moment with its beauty...you may have seen a photo a few short weeks ago of my drive covered in blossom. Within a few days, the blossom falls, and it’s like snow outside then the leaves take over and it’ll be like this until next autumn. Sound from the road is muted once again and I get the feeling I’m living in a wilderness of sorts. The whole property is enveloped in greenery once more and I just hope and pray we don’t have to evacuate this summer, like we did last time.
So, my friends, that’s it for another day. I guess you could say I’m thankful today for my animals who keep me on my toes and who know their owner/mamma........ whatever I am in their eyes, is really just plodding along, one foot in front of the other, but enjoying the journey as we go.
Peace and love to you all.
I so love your writings. Highlight of my day. I have spent the day painting and have just sat down to a bourbon ( which I do deserve after 5 hours in my little studio) and sat to read what you had been up too.
ReplyDeleteI love to read and I love it more that you share.
Blessings Jen. ❣️
